From Heartbreak to Hope: The Story of Silver Springs Equine 2024

Silver Springs Equine 2024 was born out of a deep-seated need to take action against the planned aerial shooting of Brumbies in the High Country of Kosciuszko, NSW. The thought of foals being orphaned, left to fend for themselves as helicopters chased their mothers, was a heartbreaking reality that galvanised a determined response. This was not a situation any of us would want, except for those in government and their agencies who sought the eradication of these horses.
One poignant story that captures the essence of our mission is that of Summer, a beautiful little Brumby filly rescued in December 2023. Summer was discovered nestled between two weathered fence posts, tangled in old wire, with no sign of her mother or her herd nearby. The alert about Summer's location was sent to Ian Brown, who immediately sprang into action to organise the rescue mission.
Summer's Rescue and Recovery
The rescue operation was swift and efficient. Summer was promptly picked up and taken for veterinary checks. She received the necessary medical care and an abundance of love and attention. Soon after, she was fostered out to a loving home where she could receive the round-the-clock care she desperately needed. Since then, Summer has been micro-chipped, branded with the Southern Cross, and vaccinated. She will remain with her foster family until the formal requirements for her forever home are finalised.
The Journey of Silver Springs Equine
The journey of Silver Springs Equine 2024 has been one of evolving purpose and growing commitment. It started without a detailed plan, more of a step-by-step implementation driven by an instinctive nudge—a seed of an idea that needed nurturing. Although Silver Springs had foal kits ready, we were not initially equipped with the land or the sanctuary provisions needed to become a full-fledged rescue operation. The concept was clear, the idea was strong, but the execution required inspiration and drive.
A significant influence in this journey was a series of conversations with a person who played a crucial role in encouraging the transformation of this concept into reality. This individual’s impact was profound, sowing the seeds that would grow into Silver Springs Equine 2024.
Moving Forward
As we move forward, Silver Springs Equine continues to develop and adapt, driven by the same compassion and determination that inspired its inception. We remain committed to our cause, motivated by the stories of the Brumbies and the unwavering support of our community. Each step we take is a testament to the strength of our mission and the enduring legacy of those who inspired us to act.
